I’m always curious about what goes on behind the scenes, I like to go back to the beginning, searching out the laws of nature, the biological sub-structure and further the cosmic fluid resonance from which life springs.
It is probably because I am so curious about the continuum between the known and the unknown that working with the body’s felt experience has formed the centrepiece for how I explore the limits of our understanding and how I choose to engage with the world in conscious movement.
‘Your body is your lived experience’. This is a radical departure from understanding “body” as merely physiology.
All living things have a natural propensity to grow and living things are provoked by the conditions in which they find themselves. This coupling of forces directs the innate energy into form and sets patterns in motion.
As humans, we are conditioned through our personal history and increasingly become hyper-conditioned by those things we consider most familiar. The more familiar the circumstance and the less they change, the greater the danger that we become adept at fewer and fewer alternatives, mentally, physically and emotionally.
As patterns mature we see a high level of specialisation and less inquisitive exploration, with practice we stand a very good chance of making permanent.
Somatic approaches use the body to improve self-knowledge and decrease alienation, the work helps introduce people to themselves.
The field of conscious movement, somatics, embodiment, anatomy and the art of presence, meditation and mindfulness build the individual’s ability to notice, feel and sense. And it is these metaskills that determine our willingness and capacity for listening, watching and feeling the intelligence inherent within our organism.
Movement, breath work, sound, drawing, anatomy, imagery, touch, props and sensory enlivening can have a high focus as they assist the process of self-inquiry. Being able to acknowledge areas within ourselves where choice and adaptability are not being allowed or where our beliefs, influences and behaviour is limiting us is in itself a stimulus to action and change.

As gaps are filled, tensions softened, resilience gained, a shift towards a new equilibrium occurs, allowing greater flexibility and responsiveness to develop, and with this a new confidence, a willingness to learn and a desire to keep growing.
Within day-to-day activities, I provide self-embodiment training through classes and workshops for the somatically curious. My long-term project of providing multimedia access to conscious movement information through my website is to raise more awareness of the efficient and powerful internal technology that self-embodiment practice can have in a rapidly changing modern world.
